The DEFRA question, set out plainly

This is the part to read twice, and we are going to be careful because the distinction is real and easy to get wrong in either direction.

QWTN's site says it is already compliant with the digital waste tracking mandate, and the supporting reasons it gives are that it produces fully digital WTNs with EWC codes, carrier register verification, legal e-signatures and two-year cloud storage. Every one of those things is true and useful. None of them is submitting to the Digital Waste Tracking service, which is a separate obligation: from 1 October 2026 a receiving site has to file each incoming load through DEFRA's API within two working days. Digital record-keeping and digital waste tracking are two different duties, and the site's wording runs them together.

QWTN does not appear on the GOV.UK list of providers who have integrated with the receipt of waste API and passed production approval testing. Their own launch press release describes them as a participant in DEFRA's digital waste tracking API beta programme. Both of those can be true at once, because a technical working group is not the same as a confirmed integration, so we are not calling anything false. We are saying: if you need to file to DEFRA, ask them directly whether they submit today, and get the answer in writing.

For carriers this is less pressing, because the carrier phase is not until October 2027 and QWTN's audience is largely carriers, tradespeople and producers. For a receiving site facing next month it is the whole question.

What else is missing, and what is not

Hazardous consignment notes are marked coming soon. If you move asbestos, oils, contaminated soil or anything else consigned, that is a hard stop today rather than a shortcoming, and LoadSnap runs the full workflow with HP codes and POPs.

There is no offline claim anywhere on their site, no GPS and no route planning. The word driver app appears once, inside a decorative dashboard mock-up on the homepage, and is not on the pricing page or in the features navigation, so we would treat it as unverified rather than shipped. And the footer scopes the product to England and Wales, with no Scotland or Northern Ireland claim, which matters if you cross the border.

What they do have that we should acknowledge: RAMS and health-and-safety logging, DVSA walkarounds, invoicing with BACS, client portals, recurring schedules and container tracking, all at £29 a month for five people. For a small skip operator that genuinely replaces two or three tools, and the free no-account tier is a better front door than ours for a one-off producer.
