DEFRA rollout

What you just saw is Phase 1. Here's what changes in Phase 2.

DEFRA mandates the receiving side first and the carrying side a year later. LoadSnap is built for both - the workflow above simply gets shorter for receivers when carriers come on board.

Phase 1 · nowFrom 1 October 2026

Receivers file - this is the flow above

The carrier still arrives with a paper transfer note, so the receiving site is the one that records the movement digitally and files it to DEFRA. Exactly what you just stepped through.

  • Operative selects the carrier from the saved library and adds the vehicle and driver
  • A photo per item; AI suggests the EWC code, which the operative confirms
  • Container, form and weight captured at the bridge
  • Back office reviews and files the movement - a Waste Tracking ID comes back
Phase 2 · nextExpected from 2027

Carriers join - and the receiver flow gets shorter

Once carriers are mandated, the movement is created and given a Waste Tracking ID when the job is planned. The driver carries that ID to the gate, so the receiver stops re-keying and starts confirming.

  • The operative enters the carrier's code; the waste details pre-fill from the carrier's submission
  • They still photograph and weigh the load - that part doesn't change
  • Back office checks what the carrier filed to DEFRA against what actually arrived
  • If the figures don't match, they correct the record before it's finalised

Why it lands

Everything the paperwork used to slow down - in under a minute.

AI does the classification

A photo becomes an EWC code, description and hazard flag in under a second. No code books, no guesswork at the gate.

Carriers verified live

Every carrier is checked against the Environment Agency register in real time, so an expired registration is caught before the load is accepted.

Filed to DEFRA, ID back

The movement is submitted to DEFRA's digital waste tracking service and a Waste Tracking ID returns in seconds - included on every plan.

Built for the weighbridge

Operative Mode is full-screen and tablet-locked: select, snap, weigh, send. Every truck, under 60 seconds.

No app to install

Drivers and operatives use a PWA - a link, added to the home screen. Works offline, syncs when back in range.

Records that stand up

Every movement keeps its photo, classification, weights and signatures - the audit trail DEFRA and your customers expect.
