Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment
The short answer
Anything that ran on a plug or a battery, once somebody throws it out. It is collected and treated separately from ordinary waste, and the manufacturer or importer is legally obliged to fund the recycling.
In practice
The categories run from large household appliances through IT and display equipment to lamps and tools, and some of them carry their own hazards: fridges have refrigerant gases, screens have their own treatment route, and anything with a battery has a fire risk in a compactor.
The obligation is settled with evidence notes, which only an Approved Authorised Treatment Facility or an Approved Exporter can issue.
