Hazardous waste checker: HWCN or WTN?
Not sure whether a movement needs a Hazardous Waste Consignment Note or a standard Waste Transfer Note? Add the EWC codes for your load and this checker applies the same rules LoadSnap uses in-product - absolute hazardous codes, mirror entries, POPs and asbestos - and tells you which note you need. It is free and there is no signup.
Use the search to add each waste type. Hazardous (asterisked) codes are flagged.
Questions
Frequently asked
Do I need a consignment note or a transfer note?
If any waste in the movement is hazardous you need a Hazardous Waste Consignment Note (HWCN). If all of it is non-hazardous a standard Waste Transfer Note (WTN) is enough. Add your EWC codes above and the checker decides for you.
What makes waste hazardous?
An EWC code marked with an asterisk is absolute hazardous. Mirror entries can be hazardous or not depending on what they contain, so the checker asks you to confirm. Some wastes, such as asbestos and POPs, are always hazardous.
What is a mirror entry?
A mirror entry is a pair of EWC codes for the same waste, one hazardous and one not, where the correct one depends on the concentration of dangerous substances. You need to assess which applies.
Is this checker a substitute for proper assessment?
No. It uses recognised rules to point you to the right note, but you remain responsible for classifying your waste correctly and meeting your duty of care.
Classifying loads by hand?
